ALL STATE CHOIR AUDITION INFORMATION
Good Morning All,
Here are the cuts for the All State Auditions:
All State Cuts Clarification:
-
GLORIA
Piano starts on page 12 at the top
Vocal starts on page 12, measure 3 (bass sings “Adoramus…”)
Cut ends on page 16, measure 2, beat 1
- Ubi Caritas p. 6 m28 to m 39
Note: I have had a few questions about the pronunciation of the Latin: “sincero” in the Ubi Caritas. There are 2 different ways to pronounce this word:
- Sin SEH ro with a soft “S”
- Sin CHE ro with a hard “CH”
Either way is acceptable. NO STUDENT WILL BE PENALIZED IN AUDITIONS FOR EITHER PRONUNCIATION! I personally favor the first way, but I am a fan of Church Latin. Randall Stroope will tell the All State choir the way he wants it at All State.
When you record the auditions:
Track #1 Gloria
Track #2 Ubi Caritas
Track #3 Student’s information:
- Student’s Name
- Student’s Voice Part
- Student’s School
- Student’s Region
THE SAME INFORMATION GOES ON THE AUDITION CD ITSELF – AND ON THE CD JACKET OR JEWEL BOX!
If you intend to enter students into the All State audition process you must:
- Be sure you are paid up from last year
- Have paid your membership fee
- Register your student[s] on Solochair [Registration is now open!] and pay the registration fee [$16 per student]. Deadline is Oct. 4. [NOTE: BE SURE TO REGISTER YOUR STUDENT AS THE VOICE PART FOR WHICH THEY ARE AUDITIONING!!! A student may sing Soprano in your choir, but may audition as an alto. Register her as an ALTO!] And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE register all your students at the same time! It creates a blizzard of paperwork if you enter them all on different days!
- Have the “official” Audition Accompaniment CD. Joel is sending those out this week.
- Be sure you can attend your Region’s Judging, AND the final Judging in Houston.
- re: Proxies for judging: All teachers who submit audition cds are expected to be at their Region Judging. If a teacher has students moving onto the final round, he/she is expected to be in Houston on Nov. 5 for the final state judging. If, for professional reasons, a teacher cannot be present for a judging [Region and State], he/she must send Ron Matthews a check for $120, AND notify the site host. The Site Host will then find a replacement. Ron will then send the proxy judge a check after the judging event.
- Re: Labels on Audition CDs and CD Jackets: The labels must be printed ON A PRINTER – NOT handprinted.
- Before you send in any audition cds, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you have the following:
- The audition cd, correctly labeled
- The commitment forms – a separate form for each student.
- The Solochair receipt for payment for ALL of your students who are auditioning!
- Have the audition cds in my hand by 11:59pm on Friday, Oct. 7 [NOTE: UPS and Fedex do not deliver at my school after 11am on Fridays! Think ahead. Region 3 folk are free to hand deliver your cds if you wish.]
Reminder: A student may record as many “takes” as the director will allow [here at St. Agnes we take the best out of 3]. A teacher may “direct” a student as he/she sings, but may NOT make any audible contribution to the recording, NOR ENHANCE the recording in any way!
That’s it for now. Lord knows you will be hearing from me a few more times before Oct. 7. New folk, if you have any questions, feel free to write me!
XOXO
