President-Elect
LINDSAY MEDINA
Lindsay Medina is the Fine Arts Department Chair at Frassati Catholic High School where she teaches classes in music, theater, and dance. Prior to serving as a founding faculty member at Frassati Catholic, Medina served as an Associate Instructor of Voice and the coordinator of Project Jumpstart, the career design and music entrepreneurship initiative at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she advised graduates with entrepreneurial interests and organized roundtable discussions with classical music industry professionals. Medina holds a Doctor of Music from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and her research interests include adapting educational philosophy and methods to private voice instruction, elevating female and American composers, and training the adolescent voice. She is frequently sought out for her expertise in vocal pedagogy, production, and health, and in blending soloistic singing techniques with choral conventions. After presenting at the TMEA conference, Dr. Medina’s presentation, “Energizing Inefficient Voices,” was published in the February 2020 edition of the journal Southwest Musician. When not immersed in the life of Frassati Catholic, Lindsay enjoys gardening, serving at her parish, and spending time with her husband and three beautiful daughters. She currently serves as the TPSMEA Executive Secretary.

MARIANNE MORRISON
Marianne Morrison currently serves as the Choral Director and Fine Arts Director at Bay Area Christian School in League City, Texas. She brings over 20 years of experience as a music educator and is dedicated to cultivating a love for music and worship in students of all ages. She recently earned her Master’s degree in Education and is a Licensed Professional Counselor–Associate in the state of Texas. Marianne is committed to supporting students and individuals in their musical, personal and professional growth.

DR TYRONE BLOCK
Dr. Tyrone J. Block, a native of Dumas, Arkansas, has distinguished himself as an accomplished trombonist and educator throughout his career. His accolades include winning the Northeast Arkansas Young Artist Concerto Competition, performing with the Walt Disney All-American Duke Ellington Jazz Band, and earning Brass Player of the Year honors at the University of Arkansas-Monticello for two consecutive years. Dr. Block holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from UAM and both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Performance with a related field in Ethnomusicology from the University of North Texas. His military service includes touring three continents with the United States Navy Show Band and receiving the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Army School of Music.
Currently serving as Dean of the College of Music and Communication Arts and Music Department Chair at Nelson University and the Director of Bands for Southern Star Fine Arts, Dr. Block maintains an active performance schedule with prestigious ensembles including The Duke Ellington Orchestra, 8-Bit Big Band, Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Tyrone’s Bones, and Jazz Monsters. He has received the Distinguished Teacher Award from Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD and the Distinguished Faculty Award from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. As an S.E. Shires performing artist and guest conductor for numerous regional honor jazz ensembles, Dr. Block continues to influence the next generation of musicians through his summer teaching at UAM’s jazz camp and his leadership at Nelson University.
JONATHAN HELD
Jonathan Held is in his 26th year of education. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education in K-12 Music Education from Concordia University – River Forest (Chicago) in 2000 and a master’s degree in music with a conducting emphasis from Southern Oregon University in 2004. In regards to jazz, Jonathan studied in Chicago under Kirk Garrison who earned grammy nominations as the lead trumpet with the Frank Mantooth Band among others throughout Chicago area. Garrison currently tours with the Lt. Dan Band and is the Director of Jazz Studies at Elmhurst University.
Jonathan’s current role at Concordia Lutheran High School is the director of fine arts, and band director including jazz band and combo. He’s served a number of years as the TPSMEA south region coordinator for middle and high school and worked with directors to get that event established and grown. If elected, he would collaborate with area directors to continue to build upon the success of all-state jazz and bringing in high quality clinicians.

TINSLEY SILCOX
Tinsley Silcox, Director of the Upper School Choir at St. Mark’s School of Texas, began his choral conducting career at age 16, and has since served choirs in a variety of settings, including churches, schools, community choruses, and professional ensembles. His teachers include Donald Neuen, Paul Salamunovich, Jester Harriston, and Robert Shaw. Among his credits are numerous musical theater productions, Founder and Director of the professional chamber music ensemble “Bel Canto”, Founder and Director of the Lafayette-Oxford-University Community Chorus in Oxford, Mississippi, Assistant Director of the University of Tennessee Concert Choir, and Guest Conductor of the SMU Concert Choir. His conducting credits include numerous large works with orchestra, including Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s Requiem, Rutter’s Gloria and Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Beethoven’s Mass in C Major. Choirs under his direction have sung for the Advent Sing in Vienna, Austria, for the Festival Chorale Toscana in Montecatini Terme, Italy, noon Mass on the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul in St. Peter’s Basilica, and at cathedrals across the UK, including St. Paul’s, Gloucester, Wells, Ely, Winchester and St. Jiles, and in Westminster Abbey. He served as Director of Choral Activities ad Interim for the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU for the 2001-02 academic year and is the Director of Music at NorthPark Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, the American Choral Director’s Association, the Royal School of Church Music, and the Association of Anglican Musicians. KATHY MONTGOMERY
Kathy Montgomery has been an active member of TPSMEA since 2011 and serves as the Upper School Choir Director at Duchesne Academy. She holds a degree in Vocal Performance and Secondary Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and began her career teaching middle school music in Cy-Fair ISD. A professional singer, she recently retired after 34 years with the Houston Grand Opera and continues to serve as a cantor for churches in the Houston area.
